The United States would have artists like Marlene Dietrich (a German star who became a US citizen) record sad, melancholic songs about lonely soldiers. The aim was to lower the moral of the German soldiers. In 1945 Dietrich was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom for her contributions as the plan worked.
